Dear all,

Welcome to the Academic Reading and Writing class for intermediate students. This course is Green and there is a second course which is Blue.

My name is Emma and I'll be teaching you every day of the course. I like this because I get to know you all better and we get to work more on the skills that you most need. I think I'm quite a friendly teacher but I really don't like students being late and students who miss lots of classes!

I'm married to a Malaysian and I have 3 children, aged 11, 9 and 7. I have lots of pets - can you guess that they are?! I have a cat with a broken paw who needs lots of care and cuddles at the moment but he's very sweet and a good patient! I have a big Malaysian family here and a small family back in England. At the end of July, I'm going to England for 3 days with my daughter to surprise my Grandma at her 90th birthday party!

I love reading. At the moment, I'm reading Cider with Rosie by Laurie Lee. It's a classic of English Literature. I like rowing with people from my old university and playing badmninton with my son. I'm Secretary of a Society too so that keeps me really busy.

I hope you'll enjoy the course and get lots of out it.

I have been in Malaysia for 13 years and have been teaching for 6 years. I love teaching and meeting students from lots of different countries. I'm married with 3 children aged 11, 9 and 7. I like reading and we like to have family bike rides together.

Hi,my name is Salman ,I'm 43 years old .I'm married and I have 4 children .My job is specialist orthopaedic surgeon and I have worked in many pravite hospitals for more than three years.I live and work in Yemen and I left my family in Yemen .I came to malaysia one month ago to study English and to improve my skills in this langaugue to heip me to apply to ajob in my field abroad and also for immigartion. I'm from Mongolian and im study in Malaysia....
I joinned this class becuase of my writing and reading problem, i need to proof my writing.
Im just graduated my course and waiting my new course start, its going to start on September thats why i have time to proof my english^^.
I choosed BC becuese of the teachers the are westen, i looked many diffrent english course but most of them teachers are from local.
I think my speaking and listening is better than my writing and reading, i really like this course becuase thit is what i need.

Scientists to discuss alien life

I think we must send rockets,people and satellites into space and discover whats going on arround us.And trying to get solution if there alien life in another planet and try to connect with them if there are alien life as Dr Drake said he remained convinced that intelligent life existed beyond the Earth,despite the lack of success of search for extra -terrestrial intellgence scintsts who have spent half a century tuning into the stars.And I think if there another live in another planet will be usefull for us because we can learn from them and discover them civclisation.

1) She lives in the same house which she was born 100 years ago, she never married because she didn’t like to leave her parents and her family house.
2) Before the First World War her house was destroyed in a fire, but here parents was rebuilt it.

plastics

Polyethylene was made in 1889 by a German chemist. Most of plastic bags are made from this material. Nowadays you can see paper and plastic bags in every supermarkets and shops. People use them everywhere easy and handy, but they do not think what will be happened after throwing these bags in the bin or nature. They are not analyzing in the nature so make a lot of soil and water pollution. Some countries try to forbid using it, but so far the plastic and paper bags have been using all over the world.

I remember when i first started using a computer, i started using when had interact to change job, after that i changed ones mind about computer using in 7 years ago, my brother bought for me first computer.


I dont konw exactly when time comes computer in my country but i think most of people using computer 20 years ago and the internet system began in 1995 , of course my brother had it in the office in 1998. amoment the lods of people in my country using internet , they used internet at home, university, office, governmental job, and some etc........


we use internet for chating, email, give information, saveing informatin , global information, and some etc...........

Nowruz/New day

Today, I would like to tell you and others about” Nowruz”/ new day, because tomorrow (21 march) is new day for Iranian people and some other countrys` people that it starts as the first day of Iranian” New Year.”

Nowruz is celebrated and accepted by Iranian people and others of the world such as central Asia, south Asia, northwestern China, Crimea, Albania, Bosnia, Serbia and Republic of Macedonia. Actually, Nowruz marks the first day of spring and young nature that is the beginning of the year in Iranian calendar as well as Zoroastrian holiday in 330 BC which usually occurs since March 21st. As a result, Nowruz was originally a Zoroastrian festival, but it has unclear dated origin. Of course was maybe beginning by Zoroaster/king himself that was considered as a gift for other kings.

Iranian families gather together to the rituals and celebrate. They also visit their friends, pray for lucky and have the best wish of others in this year. This day probably will be International day for peace and sense friendly human in the world. Recently, the United Nation General Assembly in 2010 recognized the International day of Nowruz. Actually, describing a spring festival of Persian origin which has been celebrated for over 3000 years, and registered of the UNESCO list of the Intangible Heritage of humanity. Nowadays, the people who celebrate this day are over 300 million. It should be symbolize for peace in Iranian people and all of the countries in the world with recognizing the cultural and historical significant of Nowruz.

I find two interested about Olive,this woman never married because she didnt want to leave her parents and her home and she hates seeing doctors ,but she walks with a stick . I think she to get glued on a past time , actually Olive wouldnt dream of moving.

The house , which was destroyed in a fire before the firest world war, was rebuilt by her parents Ellen and Frank. She loves her home so much that she has rarely even gone on holiday.

2) Yes I had, but not such big problem in the airline, we were to Penang during Chinese New Year’s holiday in the back home there was a bad traffic jam on the road due to heavy raining and old car overheated in the slope road, thus after eight hours continues driving we arrive in KL in the midnight.

The Gonbad Kavus Tower

The Gonbad Kavus tower is located in Gonbad city, in the north of Iran. It is one of the tallest towers which built from red-backed brick, but it stands more than 1000 years on a hill inside the city. A few centuries ago the old Gonbad city was damaged completely by a heavy earthquake, but the brick tower stood against the earthquake strongly. The tower was built in between 1006AD and 1007AD by order of Soltan Kavus ibn Wushmgir. There are different ideas about purpose of building , and some people believe that it is Solatn Kavus tomb.

The height of tower is 55 metres which is divided in two parts, first from the tower's bottom to the below of conic roof is 37 metres and second the conic roof is 18 metres high. The perimeter of internal bottom is 30 metres and the perimeter of external bottom is 60 metres. The internal bottom’s diameter is 9.6 metres. The earliest sample of Muqarnas (stalactite work) is used in the tower which is a decorative style of Iranian architect. The geometry of building is simple, beautiful and strong, it is in the circular plan and broken by ten right angle-flanged space in the exterior of building. There is a point about 100m of the bottom’s circle plan that every body can here his / her whisper due to sound reflect effect!

This article told about a British couple, Emma and her boyfriend Raoul. They want to go for on holiday to Sydney,Australia, but in their travel had a big mistake from Raoul and they didn't have an interesting holiday.

The flight time from Britan to Australia about 22 hours and for this journry must a plane big and have least two part of journey to recive to Australia.Raoul had booked two tickets on the internet from Britan to Australia. When they got on a plane, Emma was slightly worried because the plane was small and had just 25 seats and she surpried to see a smmal plane like that going all the way to Sydney,Australia. After 9 hours 30 minutes the plane landed at Sydney,Canada. When they landed in an airport, they thought they are in Sydney,Australia airport, but that wrong, they landed on opposite side of the world. Then they realized they are in Canada. In that time they went to coustomer servise and one of them said:'we should be in Sydney,Australia, but we are in Canada now'. Finally they realized when Raoul booked the tickets, he booked from Britain to Sydney,Canada. I think he is stupid because he has made a big mistake in his life .

I read a text about Joanna who doesn’t has smell and taste sense it is hard to say how can live out these senses, following are reply to the questions:

1) She doesn’t know good and bad smells, all smells are same as air for here, if there is a fire or a unsafe food she can’t smell, she cant smell even herself body, she doesn’t have any memory from previous smells, foods and drinks are same for here as no difference between taste and smell can’t be sensed, she always need mothers help to check smell of here foods and home.

2) I can’t image to be like as Joanna, as I believe all five senses (smell, taste, touching, vision, hearing) are necessary to have a perfect life. I have to be independent on daily routine, I like to enjoy from a delicious food and prevent to eat a rotten food, and without smell I can’t have a safe life.

Every person, like chocolate then i think writer should explanation about habituated or to be addicted.People think if one person used drug its a addicted , but its better writer for writing gived helpe a psychoanalyst advised in the story.


First, alot of chocolate, its bad for health second shes eating chocolate a habit its a filing in the mind. I think she should eat choclate , and going to meet a psychologist.
